"There is a significant imbalance of information provided to consumers, and often, customers won’t always compare labels and instead make intuitive decisions that are based upon previous assumptions."
This is so helpful, thank you! Someone close to me works at a shelter for houseless folks on the weekend, and she was recently bemoaning the amount of "junk" on-hand for the residents there to make themselves and eat (mac and cheese, ramen, cookies, etc.). She said they need "real food" to feel better and motivated. (She is someone who spends a lot of money on the "right" ingredients in search of health fixes.) I tried to push back gently, saying that when there are a ton of stressors in your life, the mental energy spent on food and making it is maybe just not attainable. Which isn't to say that there isn't a place for preparing a delicious meal that has more ingredients and takes time! Why can't it be both? I don't know how well I articulated all that to her, but I'm definitely considering ways I can introduce your words into her life without it feeling like an affront to her!
Thank you for the detox clarification. I use "detox" as a synonym for "take my money."
Pretty much the same thing!
Don’t you mean “cleanse me of my money”? 😉
That’s a good one!
Yes! Love this piece Shana!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this! It's easy to be blinded to specifics on food labels when we're only looking at the general theme (that "health halo").
Yes exactly!
The "A health halo effect" is the perfect way to describe the whole foods experience. This was a very interesting read!
great post!

Immediately laughed at the phrase “grain free” because I’ve only ever seen that on cat food 😂
This is a very important article! I really appreciate your message and knowledge!!
Thanks Shana!!
