One time when we were standing in the checkout line at the supermarket, The Husband looked at the magazines on display and commented, "you know, when you look at the Kardashians, you lose a little bit of your soul." I just dismissed it as another one-off from him, but after reading this, I realize he was kinda right. So looking forward to your book!

I was very disturbed by Kim's look this year-- I kept thinking, what is the point of all this?

She definitely likes to go for shock value and achieves it unfortunately.

Thank you for this! As a mother of two young women I appreciate your words. I’ve always told my daughters to buy clothes that fit their now bodies, don’t try and change and manipulate their bodies to fit an article of clothing. And the whole summer bodies thing -bikini body- workouts, diets, etc makes me angry. Why can’t we just nourish ourselves with foods and movement that support our health and let our body shape be what it is and celebrate that?!

Yes bodies are going to change and it’s hard to accept when we are told that we should look the same throughout life.

This piece was incredible. As someone with a history of binge eating disorder, I completely agree with your sentiments about disordered eating becoming so commonplace that we don't even SEE it when people talk about it. The Kim K. and Jessica Biel Met Gala stuff was just SO COMPLETELY INSANE, but people commenting were like, "So gorgeous!" and not seeing that what they did TO GET THERE was really unhealthy. Thank you for writing about this!

I appreciate the Rob McElhenney quote but I wonder if you might consider not linking to the Daily Mail - here in the UK it's a very negative and destructive part of the media and spreads a lot of hate (including, but very much not limited to, unpleasant attention on female celebrities' bodies).

Noted on that thanks

I’m so glad we’re blocking celebrities, their businesses and the companies they advertise for. They enable so much harm both at home and abroad. #FreePalestine #FreeCongo

All. Of. This. When can we stop hating our bodies and love them, just as they are? That's been my life journey, to love myself and my body. I am in a place now where I am not constantly berating myself for eating "treats," and loving my curves, but there is always the voice in the back of my mind whispering "you should be smaller." I can usually tell her to F@#$ off, but it takes energy.
